In the Middle Years ~ Our Homeschool Philosophy (Video)

I've created a beast -  a Frankenstein monstor of sorts. It's called video.

I love doing it but I'm frustrated learning the technology to "get it out there". The learning curve involved is totally messing with my scheduled writing/creative time. It's taking over my life. Not really, but it has consumed a fair amount of the past two days.

Like I said, a monster.

This video was supposed to come to you in one part. But you know me - long winded, wordy, gesticulating (wildly). Taking way more time than the 15 minutes alloted by YouTube for easy video upload.

I know, I know - I need to use a private Vimeo account or something. Just more technology to learn. I'd rather just sit down and chat with you all, you know? And have the technology flow seemlessly. Ahem. Welcome to my dream world.

So here's the point of this post. There's changes a foot in our homeschool routine. This is a natural progression as our children grow. But with our recent move the pot has really been stirred (we're talking major changes) and life looks quite different now than it did one year ago.

I want to share those changes with you - what's happened in the course of our move, our children's growth and development, as well as my own - and how that has affected our homeschool practice.

But before I get to that I need to talk philosophy because I am an educational philosophy junkie. Back when I was going to university, taking my Education degree, the light bulb really went off for me during my final years when we started to dive deep into education foundations.

I found (one of) my learning loves - reading, discussing and writing about educational ideas - and decided I would rather continue my education with a Masters in the whys and hows of learning instead of managing a classroom. Student teaching taught me that being a public school teacher was not for me.

But the desire to start a family took precedence over further schooling, Celine was born and my career as homemaker started.

Nowadays, as a homeschooling mother and lifelong learner, I get jazzed talking about the whys and hows of our own family's learning journey. 

This video shares some of the whys behind our practices. It's an introduction to what the video is really about - the changes in our family life and how that has changed the way homeschooling looks. 

But, because I am long winded and technically challenged I've divided the video to share in two separate posts.  It's probably better this way, twenty-five continuous minutes of watching me could be tedious. It is for me!

In the video I mention, Figuring Out Homeschooling Late Elementary, a post I wrote two years ago which described homeschooling for us at that point. It provides a bit of an overview to how I see the homeschool ages and stages.
